the etiquette of the cellular device
re. CELLPHONE MANNERS MATTER. Everywhere you go, everywhere you look, what do you see? Cellphones! Cellphones have become such a big thing in society. To be honest, I'd be lost without my phone; like that time I lost it, I felt so ..naked so to speak. Hahaha. But, the fact that cellphones are a great invention should not hide the fact that even cellphones come with proper use and manners.
I love my phone, and I will always be a supporter of phones, but seriously.. I do not want to hear your conversation on the bus. There were multiple times when I'd be on the bus, and hear a random outburst of " OMG, NO WAY. YOU'RE JOKING." I guess that's reasonable if you're shocked and that's your intial reaction, but the conversation just kept going. Which comes to what I think should be rule number 1.
Rule #1: When talking on you're phone, don't shout! Keep you're voice low, to mind the other people around you. If that is not possible, atleast go outside or to a place with less people!
Another thing that annoys me about phones, is when I'm at the movies. I'm sitting enjoying the movie, and all of a sudden a funky ringtone goes on. Unless it's from the movie, then I do not want to hear it. Which should be rule #2!
Rule #2: When in quiet areas, or places of importance that need your undivided attention (church, meetings, etc.), turn your phone off or atleast put it on vibrate. :)
Oh yes, thinking about my next paragraph made me remember an incident I had just a few days ago with my friend. So, we were out, talking and everything; then her phone rings. She answered it - which is understandable, but she was on the phone for like 10 minutes +. I find that annoying!
Rule #3: If with a group of friends, it's okay to answer you're phone for a few minutes.. but don't let you're phone conversation become more important! Besides, you could always call the person back.
Recently the news has shown news stories about people talking on their cellphone while driving, or people texting while crossing the road. It's ridiculous, and so dangerous! I believe a life is more important then a text or call.
Rule #4: Don't talk and drive! and if you really need to talk while driving, atleast use a headset! Safety is the #1 priority, it's not like you can sue your phone for getting into an accident. And, when crossing the street, wait untill you're on the other side of the road to reply, bumping into a person is alot better then a car bumping into you.
Lastly, just because you're on your phone, you shouldn't ignore the people around you. There are times when I would hold the door for someone onthe phone, and they'd just walk on by, the least you can do is take 2 seconds away from your call and say a simple thanks.
Rule #5: Manners should always be present, wheter on the phone or not! So, those are my 5 rules for use of the cellphone. What are yours? :)
