video-what?! videogames! :)

Re. Gaming Gone Wild

What do Dance Dance Revolution, Halo 3, Pokemon, Guitar Hero, Grand Theft Auto, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Rockband, Call Of Duty, Sims, .. etc, etc. all have in common?

They're all video games.. everyone has to have played them atleast once, twice and even thrice in their lives, if not then you're probably living under a rock. Video games have been around for a while and they just keep getting better and better. For example, remember the Super Mario games in 2-D for the oldschool Nintendo system? Compare that to the graphics for Super Mario games for the Ninetendo Wii.. it's such a big change, and it's in 3-d too! I have all sorts of gaming consoles - Ninetendo, Playstation 1, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2. - and I remember playing for 3 hours straight sometimes, which rarely happens anymore. But, back then I was pretty into it. Honestly, I don't think there's much to video games. My take on videogames is that they're just a source of fun for kids - or even adults - to get into this whole other world... where you don't worry about any stress except for the fact that you keep dying and you're so close to getting to the next level or getting mad when your memory card can't save because it's run out of memory space. Playing games can also help you connect with people, like at a party everyone is quiet and shy then people start playing and challenging each other. Next thing you know, everyone's screaming, teaming up and having fun. Playing games like a way to let go of your worries, while having fun and entertaining yourself at the same time, it's like the best to both worlds, yeah? :) Plus, not all videogames are shooting, or just make you sit down. There are games like Big Brain Academy that make you think, and then there's Wii sports that make you move while playing. Kinda cool isn't it to have games that can make you smarter and get you moving, right?

Videogames can be life-stealing and money-consuming at times. I remember when I first got Guitar Hero III, I was determined to unlock all the songs. So determined that I didn't stop until I finished easy mode :p and when I did, I ended up not doing any units and sleeping at like.. 1 AM, which is rare for me. Hahaha. I think people are so into video games because the hype and excitement that comes whenever games come out. Plus, I think peer-pressure sortof adds to it too - ex. everyone knows what Rockband is, but not everyone's played it. And the hype for it was so high that everyone wanted to play; whether you bought the game, played at a friends house, or happened to be at the mall and go to Bestbuy just to play, atleast once. Video games also cost a bunch of money, and some people are crazy enough to spend hundreds on games alone, which they probably won't even play again after 3 months of playing it or something. A situation where I think enough is enough is when people start getting all obsessive. Yeah, it sounds funny but videogames can cause dangerous obsessions that lead to bad habits like, not eating, drinking, doing homework, going outside.. the list can go on and usually people with these sort of problems don't believe they have a problem in the first place. Take for example the situation with Brandon Crisp. His parents thought he was getting obsessed over his X-Box and took it away. Brandon then got angry and ran away and unfortunately things didn't end on a happy note. So, videogames aren't always a good thing.

Deciding whether video games is a good or a bad thing, is like deciding whether bread is better with peanutbutter or jelly... okay maybe not, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to think about it. Because on the one side, videogames can be time-consuming, money wasters and create bad obsession habits. And on the other hand, videogames can help you relieve stress, connect with others, exercise the brain and help get some blood pumping through-out your body. Personally, I think it's good having a bit of videogames in your life, as long as you can still manage other stuff like homework, and chores and don't lose yourself in the process. Hahaha. :)
